Dog Training

We here at BlackPaws continue to worked closely with Terra Maclean as we have done throughout the years. Whether through rescue or through watching her at work, we are always amazed with her technique and abilities. She has helped us and our clients learn so much. We no longer offer training on-site but we do highly recommend her for all your behavior and training needs.

About Terra Maclean

CPDT-KA CBCC-KA

Professional Trainer & Behaviouralist

My heart is in animal rescue. Ever since I was a child, I have been volunteering or working at local animal shelters. I successfully ran my own rescue Prairie Animal Rescue Society (PARS), in High Prairie for several years prior to moving closer to Edmonton and merging with Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). I was the trainer with SCARS for over 10 years. When I left the organization I adopted all 13 sanctuary dogs and two sanctuary cats so they could remain with me and live out their days in peace. We formed Ferne's Acres Animal Sanctuary to support their needs, and they help me by enabling me to have 13 extra dogs to socialize client dogs with.
I have always had an interest in taking on the more challenging behavioural cases which has made me the experienced animal trainer that I am today. I have over 20 years experience working with dogs. I am a certified professional dog trainer and I have my canine behavior consultant designation as well as a diploma in equine management. Through my years of partnering with rescue and working with all sorts of animals, working specifically with rescue dogs was by far "my calling". Having fostered over 4000 dogs with my family I have learned that training through a positive reward, and the natural setting of open spaces and nature I can get the dogs back to a calm state and then reintroduce challenges and teach them how to appropriately react, while working with the owners on realistic goals and techniques.
